BLARNEY
CANNING FACTORY IN JEOPARDY!
as
reported to Seamus Daly
Special Correspondent/Blarney Insider

30.Feb.2000 PST
After many hours of tedious
work in 1999, Dave Carpenter, plant manager was able to bring the Emmetsburg
Blarney Canning Factory to Y2K compliance. According to Carpenter
everything has been running smoothly until this past week. He
informed Mickey Conlon, Chairman of St. Pat's, that the plant might have
to be closed down due a shortage of the 6oz cans in which the Blarney is
canned. Carpenter said there is only enough cans to run through
March 9th. If the 6oz cans cannot be found in time the factory will
have to be shut down and about 40-50 people will be out of work.
According to Conlon the Association is desperately trying to find a
wholesaler who can furnish the cans in order to keep the factory
open. The only other alternative, according to Conlon, will be to
use a 12oz can. A decision is expected to be made by the end of the
week. Carpenter said that if the factory has to be shut down, the
Blarney that is being stored will have to be destroyed.
